The Honda Civic is one of the most reliable and popular economy compact sedans/coupes in its class. For years it has set the quality and performance standard for the affordable, compact car market.
Available in sedan or coupe bodies, trims include DX, LX, EX, EX-L, Si, Si Mugen and GX NGV (Natural Gas). All but the GX and Si trims are powered by a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder with a standard five-speed manual transmission and optional five-speed automatic. The performance-oriented Si, comes with a 197-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-4 bolted to a six-speed manual. The Si Mugen trim (available in sedan only) is enhanced with Twin-Ring Motegi track-tuned suspension and numerous sporty features. Standard safety features on all Civics include antilock brakes, six airbags, active front head restraints and tire pressure monitoring.
For 2008, the Honda Civic adds an EX-L trim, available with optional navigation system, and standard tire pressure monitoring on all trims. Also, Honda introduces the Si Mugen sedan, which is a joint venture by Honda and Mugen Motorsports.
Purchasing an older vehicle, such as the 2008 Honda Civic, makes good financial sense. You're able to avoid the steep depreciation rates that occur with brand new vehicles. This essentially gives you the advantage of getting a 2008 Honda Civic for less money than when it was new. If the 2008 Honda Civic was properly maintained, you also have a good chance of steering clear of problems that would have developed when the car was new.
The amount you pay for an older car depends on various factors. One important element is where you buy the vehicle. You're likely to get a better deal if you buy it from a private party, as opposed to a dealer. On the other hand, a reputable dealer will normally have some kind of limited warranty, so you can drive away knowing that if the car breaks down right away, you'll be covered. Another factor that may affect price on a 2008 Honda Civic is whether it's "certified" by the manufacturer. A certified vehicle will cost more because warranty service is provided that normally doesn't come with a used car.
Another dynamic that will play into the purchase price is the resale value. A used vehicle with a high resale value will obviously cost you more. It is expected that the 2008 Honda Civic will have a good resale value. This assumes that the 2008 Honda Civic is in good condition and has a reasonable number of miles.
