Changes in the Suzuki Cars Line-Up

The 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV features a 2.4-liter 166-hp 4-cylinder engine while a new 3.2 liter V6 replaces the 2.7 liter engine from 2008. The new V6 produces 45 more horsepower (230 hp vs. 185) while surprisingly getting better fuel economy. The Grand Vitara also gets freshened exterior and interior styling and standard rear disc brakes. Suzuki’s 2009 SX4 cost-conscious base model will be available right beneath the SX4 Sport. All SX4s except for the new base model will get standard electronic stability control for 2009. The hatchback will be available with front-wheel-drive, which should increase fuel economy compared to the all-wheel-drive version due to fewer moving parts within the drivetrain. Front-wheel-drive SX4s will also get a larger fuel tank to increase range. The 2008 Suzuki XL7 base model and all 5-passenger variants have been dropped fro 2009. A new 6-speed automatic transmission increases fuel economy for the remaining XL7 models. The 2008 Suzuki Forenza and 2008 Suzuki Reno has been discontinued for 2009.

Suzuki is promoting their new “America's #1 Warranty,” A fully transferable, zero-dollar deductible 100,000-mile/7-year powertrain limited warranty on all new vehicles sold after August 1, 2002.
News on Suzuki Cars

Suzuki's sales in the United States have been at historically high levels in the past five years. In both 2006 and 2007, Suzuki had sales totaling 100,000 units annually. Sales had fallen with the rest of the industry in 2008. In a management shakeup, American Suzuki announced that Koichi Suzuki will rejoin American Suzuki Motor Corp. as executive vice president in charge of automotive operations for 2009. Koichi Suzuki headed the automotive division in the United States through April 2007. He returned to Japan, where he was group leader responsible for North American marketing. Suzuki sold 84,865 vehicles in the U.S. in 2008, which was down 16.7 percent from 2007. However, overall auto industry sales fell an average of 18 percent.
